In 1905, Mrs. J.M. Marsh purchased the hotel and it became  home
for her children.  Fannie Kate, although seven years of age, assisted
in the operation of the establishment. Fannie Kate assumed full
responsibility of the hotel at the demise of her mother and continued
in the family tradition. To local
folks, the old hotel became known
as "Fannie Kate's".

Area resident William B. Dorn
discovered gold in McCormick and
developed a mine which produced a
yield of $72,000 from 1857 to 1859.
The mine was later owned by Cyrus
Hall McCormick, inventor of the
reaper, for whom the town of
McCormick is named. The mine
operated at intervals until as late as
the 1930s

Fannie Kate would indeed be proud
of her hotel, built over Dorn's Gold
Mine tunnels; where guests once
more gather to enjoy good food,
good company, and Southern hospitality under spreading pecan
trees.

Fannie Kate's Country Inn, features eight rooms each with private
bath, Fannie Kate’s Restaurant, and Piper's Pub.
